Nancy Wilson-PajicNancy Wilson-Pajic was born in Peru, Indiana in 1941. Her work has been exhibited in Paris, where she has lived since 1974, and in museums and galleries located in Tokyo, Zurich, Rome and Bonn.
‘Les Apparitions, her latest collection of work, was displayed at Michael Hoppen Contemporary as part of the ‘Made in Paris’ season is the result of a collaboration with the French haute-couture fashion designer Christian Lacroix. Each ‘photogram’ is a unique, life-size rendition of a semi-transparent item of clothing by Lacroix. The effect is as if the ghost of the garment had just floated across the paper, tracing a brief impression of it’s passing presence. This early 19th century process gives an intense cerulean blue image, the garment having been placed directly on to the solution-painted, light-sensitive paper and left out in the sun to ‘print-out’, leaving an almost 3-dimensional image on the paper. The final photogram is a dazzlingly delicate rendition of these elaborate lace, net and chiffon Lacroix designs. Some additional pieces come from the collection of vintage lace (dentille) which is held by the Beaux Arts in Paris.
